Assembly and Usage Precautions for Industrial LCD Screens

News 2025-11-24

During the development of complete industrial products, the LCD screen, as a display component that receives significant attention from users, requires careful attention during assembly and use. Hangzhou LEEHON Technology is a professional LCD driver solution provider in China, offering high-quality industrial LCD screen products and driver solutions. Below, we share several key factors to consider during the assembly and use of industrial LCD screens:

I. LCD Screen Protective Film

New industrial LCD screens have a protective film applied to their surface. This film is to prevent contamination of the screen surface during assembly and should not be removed before assembly is complete to avoid soiling or damaging the LCD screen surface.

II. Electrostatic Discharge Protection for LCD Screens

The control and drive circuits in industrial LCD screen modules are low-voltage, low-power CMOS circuits, highly susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD damage is irreparable. Therefore, extreme care must be taken during the operation, assembly, and use of the LCD screen to prevent ESD. The following three points should be observed when using equipment to operate the LCD screen:

  1. Do not touch external leads, circuits on the circuit board, or ICs without wearing anti-static gloves;
  2. The soldering iron used for soldering must be properly grounded and free of leakage.
  3. If direct contact is unavoidable, ensure the body is properly grounded to the module, or briefly touch your hand to a metal object to discharge any ESD.

III. Precautions for LCD Screen Assembly Operation

  1. The LCD display module is carefully designed and assembled; do not attempt to process or modify it yourself.
  2. The outer metal frame of the LCD screen must not be twisted or disassembled arbitrarily; do not modify or process the PCB board shape, mounting holes, circuits, or components; do not modify the conductive strips arbitrarily; do not modify any internal brackets; do not touch, drop, bend, or twist the module and backlight components, etc.
  3. The four mounting holes must be grounded to prevent electromagnetic interference and external noise.

IV. Soldering: When soldering the external leads and interface circuits of the module, the following regulations should be followed:

  1. If the connection between the LCD module and other peripheral circuits requires soldering or changing the original connectors, please ensure that the LCD module has passed quality inspection beforehand.
  2. Soldering iron temperature
  3. Never physically damage the LCD screen or PCB; otherwise, it will be irreparable.
  4. During soldering, do not allow solder to drip onto the LCD screen’s circuit board; otherwise, a short circuit will occur, causing the LCD screen to display abnormally.

V. Use and Maintenance of LCD Modules

  1. The external leads of the LCD module must never be connected incorrectly, otherwise it may cause overcurrent, overvoltage, or other damage to the LCD module components.
  2. When connecting or disconnecting the power supply to the LCD module, a positive power supply (5±0.25V) must be stably connected before inputting any signal level. Inputting a signal level before the power supply is stable or after disconnection may damage the ICs and other circuits in the module.
  3. The contrast ratio and viewing angle of a dot-matrix LCD module are greatly affected by temperature and driving voltage. Therefore, if VEE is adjusted too high, it will not only affect the display but also shorten the module’s lifespan.
  4. When the LCD module is used below the specified operating temperature range, the display response is very slow. When used above the specified operating temperature range, the entire display surface will be in full display mode. This phenomenon does not indicate module damage; simply returning it to the specified temperature range will restore normal operation. (Do not use or store outside the storage temperature limit. If the temperature is below the crystallization temperature, the liquid crystal will crystallize, damaging the alignment layer and rendering the device unusable. If the temperature is too high, the liquid crystal will become an isotropic liquid, losing its liquid crystal state and thus its function.)
  5. Pressing the display area forcefully will produce abnormal display. In this case, disconnect the power, wait a moment, and then power on again; it will return to normal.
  6. Do not bump or knock the ICs on the PCB board on the back of the module to prevent short circuits between adjacent pins.
  7. When there are water droplets on the screen, wipe them off quickly: prolonged contact with water droplets will cause the screen to discolor or develop spots.
  8. When there are stains on the screen, wipe them quickly with absorbent cotton or other soft cloth.

VI. Module Storage
For long-term storage of the LCD screen (e.g., several years), we recommend the following: Place it in a polyethylene bag (preferably with an anti-static coating) and seal the opening; place it in a dark place, away from strong light; never place any objects on the surface; strictly avoid storage outside of extreme temperature and humidity conditions (the polarizing film used in LCDs is sensitive to high temperatures and moisture).
